PLANNING YOUR RIDE
After much experimentation on the ways of getting Google routing plans into a Harley GPS (Garmin GPS or Audio Box, etc.) the easiest way to do this is to use the Harley-Davidson Ride Planner, which provides the ability to save the ride routing as a .gpx file, and then download directions into your GPS.
After signing in to H-D Ride Planner, prepare your route as usual, ensuring each waypoint is shown as a waypoint and not a destination. To ensure this, right click on the point on the map and tick “Change to Waypoint”. The flag will disappear, but your route will now include that point. Leave the destination as a designated location.
Save the file with a unique name, and ensure the suffix .gpx is included. If you make changes, you should also change the name of the file you are trying to save.
DOWNLOADING RIDE PLAN ROUTES TO GPS
Connect your GPS; navigate to Garmin / GPX Files and copy your .gpx file to this location.
When you turn on your GPS it will say it “has found new files, do you want to load them” – select Yes. Once complete, navigate to either Routes or Favorites (where you put the .gpx file) and you can choose the route you want…it should be all ready for you to use.
You can also create and share your .gpx files which can be directly downloaded in the future.
